Product Details

Malleable Iron side-mount bracket for attaching pickets and spindles to the side of a staircase. Bracket includes a round flange with 3/8″ threaded hole for mounting hardware (not included), and a set screw for securing the baluster (Allen key included). Available in two sizes: small (for 1/2″ round) and large (5/8″ round). In typical setups, we recommend the small when fitting three balusters and brackets per stair tread, and the large when fitting two. P1647 is also available in brass and stainless steel.

Dimension Details:

    • Width: 2-1/4″
    • Overall height: 3-1/4″
    • Wall to center-point of baluster hole: 1-9/16″
    • Depth of baluster hole: 2″
    • Mounting thread depth: 1-1/2″
    • Wall flange base: 2-3/16″ OD
  • Large (fits 5/8″ round)
    • Width: 3″
    • Overall height: 4-1/2″
    • Wall to center-point of baluster hole: 2-3/8″
    • Depth of baluster hole: 2-1/2″
    • Mounting thread depth: 1-1/2″
    • Wall flange base: 2-7/8″ OD

Installation Information:

The back of the flange has a 3/8″ threaded hole, with a depth of 1-1/2″. Due to the variety of staircase configurations and field conditions, we are unable to provide mounting hardware. If there is access to the stair tread, you can use a regular bolt, with length depending on size of the stair tread. If there is no access, you can use a 3/8″ hanger bolt. For baluster installation, insert the baluster and tighten the set screw using the included metric Allen key.

Compatible Pickets

To simplify fabrication, we recommend the following pickets/balusters that will fit the P1647MI-S (Small) bracket size:

The following pickets/balusters will require the hole in P1647MI-S bracket to be enlarged due to the manufacturing process, size or shape, of these pickets:

Note about Malleable Iron:

They have a slight oil film. Item needs to be prepped before a finish can be applied. We suggest wiping them with a thinner or lacquer thinner, allow to dry, and then proceed with a finish or paint. If a “natural” finish is wanted, after wiping down with lacquer thinner, apply a clear lacquer.
