This matte black galvanized steel staircase railing located in the Bronx was a joint effort between DJA Imports and Valley Forge Iron Works of Yonkers NY. Working collaboratively with the client, we were able to offer a unique, timeless railing with a modern touch that perfectly complemented this traditional Tudor-style home.
The balusters and newel posts from DJA are both hot-forged steel and match perfectly. The design features a single collar element in the center that offers an interesting visual concept while keeping the overall design simple enough as to not overwhelm the eye.
The handrail was fabricated using DJA’s solid forged twist molding to add a unique design element at the top of the rail. Two different molding starters were used across the different sections of railing used in this project.
A smaller, more compact rounded rail starter was used at the points of the rail that terminated at the house, and at the ends of the railing on the landing by the front door. The starter used for the staircase railing is elongated to accentuate the angle of the stairs.
The base of the newel posts was capped off with a decorative shoe designed specifically for round balusters and newels to give a clean, finished look.
Finally, the entire railing was galvanized to ensure exposure to the elements won’t cause issues with corrosion, and powder coated with a matte black finish for a contemporary touch to a classic design.
